Imam Job Opening

The Islamic Society of Greater Lansing is seeking to hire a Full Time Imam to serve it's diverse community.

The Islamic Center provides services for both genders and all ages that includes Religious Services, Family Services, Youth Programs, Education - both Weekend and Full Time School, Quran Memorization and all other Social Needs

Qualifications

  • A Bachelors Degree in Islamic Studies
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the Qur’an, Hadith and Fiqh
  • Fluent in English language - spoken and written. Good knowledge in Arabic
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups and both genders
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Hefzul Quran is highly preferred
  • Ability to lead Da’wah and Interfaith activities
  • Two year experience as an Imam
  • Legal Authorization to work in the United States
Compensation
  • Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience
  • Benefits package includes Housing, Insurance, retirement

Our Expectations of the Imam

The Imam will Lead the Daily prayers and other special prayers. The Imam will deliver or facilitate all Friday sermons and all special khotbas, khatiras, speeches and talks etc.

The Imam is expected to teach, take part in Dawah programs, provide guidance, relief, comfort, healing, and counseling for all ages and problems that face the community.

The Imam is expected to act professionally and consistently in accordance with the high ideals and principles of Islam, and in compliance with our goals, vision, and policies.

The Imam is expected to promote and maintain a healthy and positive atmosphere in the community by building good relationships with community members in a professional manner that foster unity and a sense of inclusion among all members of the local Muslim community may may have diverse opinion stemming from varied schools of thought they might follow.

The Imam must show sensitivity to the diversity and needs of the local Muslim community and the community at large

The Imam is expected to give special attention the needs of the Muslim Youth, both boys and girls.

Meet community members in person during high traffic times at the Center (Jumu'ah).

Plan to have office hours on regular basis. In addition, consult with sisters on office hours that fit their needs and schedule.

Serve as a key planner in the planning and implementation of educational programs.

Help in the performing or facilitating funerals of deceased Muslims.

Continue his education and training to meet the needs of the community.

Work closely with other faith groups and represent the Islamic Community in City and Community wide events.

Meet deadlines with a positive attitude and show a strong commitment to the community at all times.

Obtain CPR and First Aid certifications (at first available opportunity)
